DEWA continues steadily carrying out new SCADA Control Centres for DCC and TCC

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is on track to complete a series of vital projects including the SCADA Distribution Control Centres (DCC) at Qusais and Warsan and Transmission Control Centres (TCC) at Al Quoz and Warsan. These centres will meet the growing needs of the Emirate of Dubai, and to support projects for its production and development. This is in line with DEWA’s strategy to meet customer satisfaction and promote Dubai's vision through the delivery of electricity and water services at a world-class level of reliability, efficiency, and within the framework of its strategy to enhance the efficiency and reliability of electricity transmission and distribution grids. The works include constructing two DCC centres at Al Qusais and Warsan at the cost of AED 150 million, as well as two TCC centres at Al Quoz and Warsan at a cost up to AED 109 million. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA said, “We move steadily with our developmental projects to provide the necessary resources of electricity so as to meet the ever-increasing needs of the Emirate of Dubai in various fields. In this regard, DEWA is setting up such centres in order to effectively control Power transmission and distribution grid in the Emirate.” “Constructions of two identical Control Centers for Distribution Network at Qusais and Warsan in multisite configuration with associated facilities started in 2008. While in 2009, we started construction works for two transmission control centres with the capacity of 132 & 400 KV at Al Quoz and Warsan. The two centres will work in parallel where each centre will receive monitoring signals from Dubai Electricity Grids,” added His Excellency. His Excellency pointed out that DCC Qusais building has been completed and parts of SCADA Network Department and Distribution Operation Offices have been shifted. The work in the Control Room and associated technical rooms have been completed. Final Preparation for SCADA System acceptance test is in progress. Major part of field works also completed. At Warsan, DCC system equipments have been installed. Commissioning activities are in progress. “Works are going steadily at TCC Control centres as two centres are being constructed; one of them at Warsan for controlling the 400 KV power transmission, and the other at Al Quoz for controlling the 132 KV power transmission,” said His Excellency. His Excellency concluded, “Each centre comprises a main control room including seven workstations, a hall designated for the system of control simulation for the purpose of training, rooms for equipment, rooms for the staff and multipurpose halls. The approximate total cost of the four centres is AED 259 million. Commissioning works of both TCC and DCC projects are in final stages and it is estimated that the two Transmission and Distribution Control Centres will be in operation by December 2011.
