Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) launched the DEWA Academy as part of its strategy to shift Dubai’s energy sector to a new stage of growth and progress.
This supports the vision and directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote Emiratisation and prepare a generation that will keep pace with the government of the future and have a futuristic mindset through the development of a world-class educational system.
By launching the academy, DEWA invests in young minds and equips a generation of young Emiratis to appreciate the importance of vocational work while embracing the nation’s vision through a pioneering technical programme. The academy aims to develop local expertise for technical positions throughout DEWA’s operations.
DEWA Academy is committed to advancing the competencies of young Emiratis by delivering vocational training that adheres to the highest international standards, complemented by distinguished practical experience.
The academy’s curriculum integrates the UAE Ministry of Education’s framework – equivalent to Grades 10, 11 and 12 in public and private schools – with the UK-accredited Pearson BTEC (Business and Technology Education Council) programme.
This dual-track approach offers students specialised education in two key disciplines: electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, ensuring they are equipped with both academic knowledge and industry-relevant technical expertise.
The vocational qualifications offered are:
1. Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Extended Certificate in Engineering
2. Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Extended Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
3. Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Graduates of DEWA Academy, upon successful completion of the programme, receive a Grade 12 General Stream certificate accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai. Additionally, they are awarded the Pearson BTEC (UK) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering, which is officially recognised as equivalent to Level 4 of the UAE National Qualifications Framework.
Pearson BTEC is the UK’s largest awarding organisation, regulated by Ofqual (England), CCEA Accreditation (Northern Ireland) and Qualifications Wales. It offers globally recognised academic and vocational qualifications, benchmarked for excellence and rooted in trusted names such as Edexcel and BTEC.
Believing that learning is the foundation for improving life opportunities, Pearson UK brings together leading educational expertise to deliver a rich blend of curricula, content, assessment, training and technology – making education more engaging and effective.
Vocational qualifications range from Edexcel NVQs to BTEC programmes, spanning from entry-level awards to Higher National Diplomas.
After completing their studies, DEWA Academy graduates embark on careers within DEWA, assigned to divisions that match their skills and the organisation’s priorities.
