DEWA Space programme ( Space-D )

DEWA’s space programme (Space-D) aims to enhance the operations, maintenance, and planning of its networks through nanosatellite technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) and remote sensing technologies. The programme also seeks to train Emirati professionals to utilise space technologies to improve DEWA’s electricity and water networks, leveraging Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as IoT and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to facilitate information exchange via satellite communications and earth observation technologies.

As part of the Space-D programme, DEWA has successfully launched two nanosatellites, becoming the world’s first utility to use nanosatellites for optimising the maintenance and planning of electricity and water networks.

DEWA SAT-1 and DEWA SAT-2 nanosatellites were designed and developed at DEWA's Research and Development (R&D) Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. DEWA’s researchers operate the nanosatellites from the Ground Station at the R&D Centre.

As part of its Space Programme (Space-D), DEWA launched two nanosatellites, DEWA-SAT 1 and DEWA-SAT 2. DEWA is the first utility in the world to use nanosatellites to enhance the performance of electricity and water networks.
