HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received Jorge Daccarett, Chilean Ambassador in the UAE. This is one of a series of visits by diplomatic and consular officials to DEWA to explore relations, exchange expertise, and promote mutual cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence, Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, and Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Government Communications at DEWA.

Al Tayer welcomed the Ambassador and presented DEWA’s innovative and pioneering initiatives and projects to achieve the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. DEWA is working to enhance the efficiency of the energy sector and rationalise the use of natural resources to promote sustainable development in the Emirate.

Al Tayer praised HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s launch of the World Green Economy Organisation in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), to promote the transition to a green economy, disseminate green economy projects around the world, and support countries and organisations seeking to achieve their green strategy and plans.

The MD & CEO explained that DEWA has a clear vision to achieve the objectives of Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to provide 75% of Dubai's energy from clean sources by 2050. DEWA launched several green programmes and initiatives, notably the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world, with an installed capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030, 4,000 of which by photovoltaic solar panels and 1,000 using concentrated solar power (CSP).

Al Tayer noted DEWA’s efforts in supporting the Smart Dubai initiative to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world. DEWA adopted a pioneering model of service organisations based on innovation in renewable energy, energy storage, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital services as well as launched its digital arm, Digital DEWA.

The two parties highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between DEWA and Chilean energy organisations from the public and private sectors, by exchanging best global practices, experiences, and benchmarking.

Al Tayer also stressed that DEWA contributes to the UAE’s achievements on the world stage as well. The UAE, represented by DEWA, maintained its first place for the second year running for getting electricity, scoring 100% in all criteria, as per the World Bank’s Doing Business Report 2019, which measures the ease of doing business in 190 economies around the world.

The Chilean Ambassador praised DEWA’s efforts and investment opportunities that will enhance joint cooperation between Chile and the UAE.
