“On National Environment Day 2024, we remember the legacy of our Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, in preserving the environment. We follow the wise directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to unify efforts to combat the environmental challenges that our planet faces and to accelerate sustainability. We also support the significant shift in climate action. The importance of a united and collective front to protect our planet and ensure the happiness and well-being of the next generations is critical. The challenges require the joint efforts of individuals, communities, organisations and government. The historic UAE Consensus that was approved at the end of COP28, hosted by the UAE, recognised the need for deep, rapid, and sustainable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the goal of limiting global temperature to 1.5°C. We realise that facing environmental issues is everyone’s responsibility. We harness the power of innovation to develop sustainable solutions that effectively mitigate the effects of climate change and protect our environment. Innovation is more than a word; it is the motivating power for sustainable practices, new technologies and approaches that accelerate the transformation of the energy sector. This is crucial to enhance a more sustainable future. It is important to reiterate our commitment to sustainability and our major role in achieving the green economy,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is at the forefront of utilities that launched initiatives and projects to reduce our carbon footprint and increase clean and renewable energy resources. We are implementing several pioneering projects to accelerate the transformation into a green economy, and achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 goals and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. These projects include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, with a planned production capacity of 5,000MW by 2030; the Green Hydrogen Project; the pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta using clean energy; projects to enhance energy efficiency; and the EV Green Charger initiative to promote green mobility. As we celebrate National Environment Day, we renew our pledge to create a world flourishing with innovation, sustainability and development, so that we can all live in harmony on our planet,” added Al Tayer.
