The Women’s Committee at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has hosted the Pink Caravan as part of its activities during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is held each year in October. This aligns with DEWA’s efforts to support health and social initiatives. Hosting the Pink Caravan is part of the committee’s efforts to raise awareness about preventing chronic and serious diseases, while highlighting the importance of regular screening for early detection.
The event included awareness lectures in Arabic and English, attended by over 200 female employees from various DEWA divisions. The lectures aimed to promote health awareness among DEWA’s female staff and the wider community. Additionally, the Pink Caravan’s specialised team conducted medical examinations for attendees and provided free mammogram vouchers for female employees.
Fatima Al Jokar, Chairperson of the DEWA Women’s Committee, stated that such activities are an essential part of the committee’s strategy to support female employees and enhance their well-being. This aligns with the committee’s role in promoting health awareness among DEWA’s female staff, which is a fundamental pillar in improving their quality of life and enhancing community well-being.
“Hosting the 12th edition of the Pink Caravan is part of the Women’s Committee’s ongoing efforts to focus on women’s health and adopt the best practices that contribute to raising awareness and educating DEWA’s female staff on the importance of early detection, which significantly increases the chances of recovery. Early detection, especially for breast cancer, boosts recovery rates to as much as 95%,” added Al Jokar.
Aysha Al Asam, Vice Chairperson of the DEWA Women’s Committee, emphasised the committee’s keenness to participate in such health initiatives to raise awareness and encourage female employees to take care of their health and undergo regular medical examinations, which leads to the early detection of diseases and contributes to improving the overall health of women.
