Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the organiser of the Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2015), has completed preparations for the exhibition to be held from 21-23 April at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event is held under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance, and President of DEWA, Addressing a press conference today at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Dubai, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and President and Founder of WETEX, announced that the 17th WETEX has attracted over 1,696 exhibitors from at least 46 countries, which is an increase of 8% over the previous show which recorded 1,564 exhibitors from 42 countries. The current exhibition will also include 26 national pavilions and at least 27 government organisations from the United Arab Emirates. 25,000 visitors are expected in 2015, which is an increase of 11 % compared to the previous show with 22,602 visitors. Al Tayer said that due to increased demand, the exhibition space was expanded to cover 55,000 sq.m2 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre spread across 9 Halls. The Higher Organising Committee has put immense efforts to position the exhibition among the leading specialised exhibitions in the world. There are 51 sponsors for this year’s show: One Titanium, 16 Strategic Sponsors, 11 Platinum Sponsors, and 23 Gold Sponsors. The Ministry of Energy is a Government Supporter, and Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) is a Media Sponsor. This year, around 30 experts will take part in the seminars held alongside WETEX and open for visitors from public and private sectors. The seminars will cover crucial topics in energy, water and green solutions, said Al Tayer. WETEX embraces the latest electric and hybrid cars as well as the latest technologies for these cars by the top manufacturers, in order to highlight their contribution to the preservation of the environment and sustainability. This move is in line with its smart initiative, to deploy an infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations at various locations across Dubai, which supports the introduction and use of electric vehicles within Dubai, to support the Smart Dubai initiative of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world. “DEWA is also planning to host specialised sessions with leading experts from participating companies in all fields. In addition we are organising introductory trips to shed the light on the latest developments and best innovations in energy and environment sector practices,” added Al Tayer. Al Tayer added that building on last year’s success, DEWA will organise the second Green Week, the most comprehensive community initiative that covers all sectors of environmental sustainability. Green Week will host a series of events and activities related to sustainability in energy and water resources as well as environment. This edition of Green Week, held from 21 – 27 April, will include WETEX, World Green Economy Summit (WGES), and Arab Oil and Gas Show 2015. “WETEX 2015’s theme is ‘At the forefront of sustainability’ because we believe that the exhibition has become an important platform that reflects DEWA’s call to the world to spread the concepts of sustainability in energy, water, environment, green economy, development of smart cities and other relevant sectors in line with its vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. Green Week will highlight the crucial role of Dubai in adopting green practices and projects, making it a model regionally and globally,” said Al Tayer. WETEX 2015 will also shed light on the latest technologies in energy, including oil and gas, renewable energy sources, energy generation, smart grids, efficiency, and energy conservation and rationalisation. In the water sector, it will focus on areas such as water resources management, treatment and desalination. For the environment, the exhibition will include topics related to waste management, green buildings, and solutions for reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and the rationalisation of electricity and water consumption.
