Suqia UAE’s Board of Trustees holds its first meeting of 2024

The Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE) held its first meeting of 2024. The meeting was chaired by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. It was attended by the board members: HE Fahad Abdelrahman bin Sultan, Deputy Secretary-General for Development and International Cooperation at Emirates Red Crescent and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Suqia; HE Dr Arif Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President of Khalifa University of Science Technology and Research; HE Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Development Affairs; HE Dr Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Provost for Research at the UAE University; Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation at DEWA; Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence at DEWA; Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia UAE; and Humaid Abdulla Al Hammadi, Acting Secretary of the Board.

During the meeting, the Board of Trustees discussed Suqia UAE’s annual report showcasing its work during 2023 and the most prominent development projects it implemented around the world to provide safe drinking water to underprivileged communities. The beneficiaries of Suqia UAE’s projects, since its establishment in 2015, has reached 14.9 million people worldwide.

At Suqia UAE, under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, we work, in cooperation with relevant local and global entities and organisations, to provide safe and clean water to communities suffering from water scarcity and pollution. Suqia translates the noble values of Islam, which are based on brotherhood and solidarity as well as the authentic values of Emirati society to extend a helping hand to people in need everywhere. Our work also aligns with the 6th Goal of the UN Sustainable Development Goals to ‘Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Suqia UAE.

The meeting also highlighted the latest developments of the 4th cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, with prizes totalling USD 1 million. The award aims to encourage research institutions, individuals, and innovators worldwide to find new and innovative technologies for the production, distribution, storage, monitoring, purification, and desalination of water using renewable energy. Moreover, the meeting covered the results of Suqia’s annual Ramadan campaign 2024, for the 10th year in a row. The campaign distributed water bottles as part of Iftar meals and food parcels to needy families in various parts of the UAE during the Holy Month of Ramadan, in collaboration with Mai Dubai and 16 local charities.
