HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer meets Consul General of South Korea to strengthen co-operation

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), held a meeting with HE Lee Beomchan, Consul General of South Korea to Dubai. The meeting sought to enhance co-operation between DEWA and Korean companies, particularly in renewable energy, water security and green technologies.

Al Tayer welcomed the Korean Consul General, highlighting DEWA’s keenness to enhance collaboration with all diplomatic missions in the UAE. He stressed the importance of fostering co-operation and constructive partnerships with Korean companies in different areas of the energy sector.

Al Tayer reviewed DEWA’s pioneering projects to achieve the wise leadership’s vision and its efforts to implement clean and renewable energy projects. He said that Dubai has a clear direction for the energy sector, which is to increase the use of clean energy, utilise digital transformation and smart grids, as well as the disruptive technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to serve the energy and water sectors.

HE Al Tayer further stressed DEWA’s dedication to working with international partners in realising its sustainability agenda and contributing to the UAE's vision for a green economy. Both parties agreed to further explore avenues for collaboration, with an emphasis on research and development, capacity building and the exchange of expertise.

During the meeting, HE Al Tayer underscored the strategic importance of fostering partnerships with international entities to drive innovation and sustainability in line with the UAE’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050. By 2050, Dubai aims to have 100% of its electricity generated from clean energy sources, with key milestones set for 25% by 2030 and 100% by 2050. A significant part of this strategy is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar project, which is expected to produce more than 5,000 MW by 2030

Lee praised DEWA’s leadership in green energy and innovation and expressed his country’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with DEWA on energy diversification and climate action.
