On World Energy Day 2024, we reaffirm our steadfast alignment with the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Their foresight drives a strategic balance between sustainable economic growth, environmental protection and energy security. These are the pillars that form the foundation of the UAE’s present and future. Central to this is our commitment to increasing the share of clean energy within the energy mix. These goals align with national strategies, including the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. World Energy Day is also an opportunity to underscore the importance of research and development in the energy sector. By promoting efficiency, enhancing productivity and finding innovative solutions, we can reduce carbon emissions, safeguard the environment and preserve natural resources while advancing economic development and global competitiveness," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

“At DEWA, we have globally leading renewable and clean energy projects that support the green economy and reinforce the UAE's leadership in climate action. Key projects include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's largest single-site solar park developed using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with a planned production capacity of over 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030. Other milestone projects include the Green Hydrogen project, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, and the 250MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta. These initiatives are crucial to achieving net zero by 2050," added Al Tayer.
