HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), emphasised that the International Day of Clean Energy is an opportunity to highlight the importance of increasing the share of renewable and clean energy in the global energy mix. This will contribute to efforts to accelerate climate action, conserve natural resources and support global efforts to combat climate change.

"On the International Day of Clean Energy, we are proud of the UAE’s achievements, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to advance the transition towards renewable and clean energy. The vision of our wise leadership has paved the way for significant achievements by launching strategic initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In Dubai, we continue to implement pioneering projects that consolidate Dubai's global position in sustainability, in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. One of DEWA’s most prominent projects is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world, based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, whose current production capacity has reached 2,860 megawatts (MW). We are also implementing a 250MW pumped-storage hydroelectric plant in Hatta, the first of its kind in the GCC region. Furthermore, we have implemented innovative projects such as the Green Hydrogen project, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa. Additionally, we continue to support energy storage innovation, research and development across all areas of our work, and strengthen strategic local and global partnerships to provide sustainable solutions. These efforts contribute to making Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world while creating a brighter, more sustainable future for us and for generations to come," said Al Tayer.
