"On the 28th National Environment Day, we reaffirm our support to the UAE's globally leading model of environmental and climate action, and our commitment to realising the ambitious vision of the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and the wise directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aimed at integrating economic and social development with sustainability and environmental protection,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
“We are building on the historic UAE Consensus reached at COP28, which has set new standards for international climate action. We continue our national efforts in this field, in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the Emirate’s energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. In this regard, we are implementing world-leading projects, most notably the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world, as well as the Green Hydrogen project, the Hydroelectric Power Plant in Hatta that uses clean energy, energy efficiency projects and the EV Green Charger initiative. Every year, we organise the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and the World Green Economy Summit (WGES) to mobilise and promote global climate action, address sustainability challenges and promote Dubai's position as the global hub for the green economy and sustainable development. We also launch campaigns, initiatives and programmes to accelerate the digital transformation, reduce carbon footprint, increase electricity and water efficiency, conserve precious natural resources, protect biodiversity and increase green spaces in Dubai," added Al Tayer.
