Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) supports the culture of volunteering rooted in UAE society and the constructive approach established by the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may he rest in peace, and supported by the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. In line with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, and based on its social responsibility, DEWA is keen to build a coherent society that preserves its identity. DEWA launches numerous initiatives and programs aimed at encouraging stakeholders to prioritise sustainable volunteerism, giving it special importance alongside professional work. It also institutionalise volunteering among its employees in accordance with the highest international standards.
DEWA’s employees continue to light the way as they cement community cohesion in fulfilment of their national, social and humanitarian responsibilities. To this end, DEWA remains committed to providing its employees with opportunities to make a sustainable impact by giving back to society in a manner that reflects the noble UAE ideals of mutual support, solidarity and tolerance.
During 2024, DEWA employees clocked 16,870 volunteer hours through 27 initiatives that benefited 5,047,776 people in the country and abroad, helping DEWA build on its storied legacy to be a global force for good and a sustainability champion. As a result, DEWA achieved a level of societal approval of 94.51%. Additionally, a total of 465 social initiatives were launched by DEWA between 2013 and 2024, through which its employees logged 249,843 hours in their tenacious push to improve the lives of many around the world.
Saleh Mohammed Saleh Mohammed Yahya, Senior technical, Distribution Power at DEWA, said he has participated in numerous volunteer campaigns since joining DEWA, including the School Bag Campaign, Meer Al Khair during Ramadan, Institutional Fitness Week, in addition to being a volunteer at Expo 2020 Dubai, COP28 and the World Governments Summit.
“Through these experiences, I have seen DEWA’s unwavering commitment to the values of giving and humanitarian community service. I always seize the opportunity to contribute to the volunteer initiatives organised by DEWA, as they offer a meaningful way to give back to the community and extend a helping hand to those in need. These efforts also foster a sense of teamwork, collaboration and brotherhood among colleagues. I am proud to be part of a progressive and sustainable institution that places great importance on its employees and its social responsibility,” said Yahya.
Hessa Jamal Ahrari, Assistant Manager for Society Happiness Studies & Stand in the Strategy & Government Communication division at DEWA, said she takes great pride in being part of a leading organisation like DEWA, describing it as fostering a culture of volunteering among its employees and integrating it as a core aspect of its operations.
“The volunteer work I have engaged in through DEWA has provided me with invaluable opportunities to give back to the community while experiencing personal growth. I have been involved in various volunteer projects that have had a significant, positive impact on the lives of others, such the volunteer campaign on Zayed Humanitarian Work Day and the distribution of breakfast meals. I’ve witnessed firsthand the results of my efforts and the collective achievements made possible by collaborating with my colleagues, which have only strengthened our commitment to volunteering and incorporating humanitarian work into every aspect of our lives,” said Ahrari.
For Reem Mohamed Almansoori, Acting Manager, Power & Water Planning at DEWA, volunteering in the initiatives and charitable activities organised by DEWA has provided her with exceptional experiences that have enabled her to make a tangible difference in the lives of fellow community members while offering support to those in need, including through campaigns like the School Bags initiative, Mer Al Khair and Farhat Dar.
