HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer highlights DEWA’s best practices in clean energy with Indonesian Ambassador

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed HE Husin Bagis, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the UAE. Discussions centred on fostering public-private partnerships, and exchanging best practices, expertise and knowledge with Indonesian organisations to drive sustainable development.

Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s pioneering initiatives and projects in clean energy, emphasising its achievements in decarbonisation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and advancing global net-zero goals. He also underscored the importance of strengthening UAE-Indonesia collaboration in economic, trade, and investment sectors, particularly in renewable energy and water—strategic priorities for both nations.

Emphasising DEWA’s leadership in clean energy, Al Tayer outlined DEWA’s adoption of the Independent Power and Water Producer (IPWP) model, which has successfully attracted global investments and achieved world-record-low tariffs for solar energy projects.

Al Tayer reiterated Dubai’s commitment to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. A cornerstone of DEWA’s achievements is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park, which underscores Dubai’s transition to a sustainable economy.

Al Tayer underlined DEWA’s role in empowering public-private collaboration to scale innovative solutions in green hydrogen, smart grids, and circular economy practices. Ranked among the world’s top utilities for efficiency and innovation, DEWA’s initiatives align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), positioning Dubai as a hub for green investment and technological excellence.

Bagis commended DEWA’s pioneering projects and conveyed Indonesia’s interest in exploring collaboration with DEWA in the provision of clean and affordable water for communities in Indonesia. The Indonesian Ambassador noted that access to clean water remains a pressing challenge in many parts of the country, particularly in dry and remote regions. The Ambassador expressed hope that DEWA’s advanced expertise in water desalination and sustainable water management could serve as a model for similar initiatives in Indonesia.
