"International Women's Day has a special importance in the UAE as we mark the ‘Year of Community’, held under the theme ‘Hand in Hand’, with the momentum of national initiatives and projects aimed at promoting the active participation of women in building a cohesive and mutually supportive society. Within it, the roles of women and men complement each other in the development process, following the solid approach established by the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace. This approach is further supported by the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. The approach aims at making women pivotal partners in the achievement of national aspirations and the push to safeguard national identity, community and humanitarian values, and cultural heritage. It also seeks to raise up promising generations capable of sustaining these achievements. DEWA further aims to provide all the capabilities that enable female employees to continue to bring about real change in sustainability and clean and renewable energy, and in the campaign to enhance quality of life. It further celebrates their valuable contributions to building a more sustainable, resilient, inclusive and prosperous future. DEWA has thus become a role model for unleashing female employees’ vocational and leadership capacities and enhancing their role in all areas of development, especially in the area of sustainability,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“There are currently 1,939 female employees at DEWA, including 579 in administrative and middle-management positions, and many others in leadership roles. Female employees hold 37.12% of management positions, which is one of the highest rates in the world. Notably, most of these positions are occupied by Emirati women. We further commend the efforts of the DEWA Women’s Committee to refine the skills of female employees in various fields of specialisation and development, to help them achieve more local and global successes, enhancing their happiness and that of stakeholders,” added Al Tayer.
