Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has won two Reuters Global Energy Transition Awards 2025, presented by Thomson Reuters, the international news agency. DEWA received the awards in recognition of its efforts to advance sustainability. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, implemented by DEWA, won the ‘Low Carbon Energy Generation’ award, while DEWA’s Sustainability and Innovation Centre won the ‘Transition Advocator’ award.

“We are committed to achieving the vision of our wise leadership and adopting excellence and innovation as a solid organisational approach to realise further achievements that reflect Dubai’s aspirations. The awards received by DEWA reflect our tireless efforts to implement the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to provide 100% of Dubai’s energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the largest single-site solar park in the world, using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. DEWA is working to increase the solar park’s production capacity to 7,260MW by 2030. The current production capacity of the solar park is 3,860MW, using advanced photovoltaic solar panels and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies. The fourth phase of the solar park set four Guinness World Records for the longest continuous CSP plant operation; the tallest CSP tower at 263.126 metres; the largest thermal energy storage facility, with a capacity of 5,907 megawatt-hours using CSP based on a parabolic basin complex and molten salt technology; and the highest capacity single-operator CSP plant at 700MW.

The Sustainability and Innovation Centre, which has received a Platinum Rating for green buildings from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), serves as a global incubator for the latest innovations in renewable and clean energy. It aims to encourage business and investment in fields that anticipate and shape a sustainable future. The centre develops the skills of specialists, youth and interested individuals through professional programmes delivered in collaboration with strategic partners, including universities, academic institutions and start-ups. It features 35 interactive exhibits and offers visitors a unique experience through technologies such as the metaverse, drones, holograms and autonomous bus rides. The centre has also won the Net Zero Building Project of the Year at the MENA Green Building Awards, as well as the International Green Apple Environment Awards.

‘Low Carbon Energy Generation’ award celebrates the projects that demonstrate significant green energy generation performance, play a major role in promoting energy transition, increasing the clean energy share of both total energy mix and in markets. They are supplying the world with the clean power it critically needs, especially as global demand for electricity continues to rise. ‘Transition Advocator’ award honours individual or a team that has demonstrated exceptional dedication in promoting and facilitating the transition to net zero. The winner drives tangible changes through educating the market, driving policy change, and implementing initiatives that accelerate the shift to a cleaner and equitable energy future.
