Empowered DEWA youths drive sustainable community impact

The Youth Council of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) supports the company’s social responsibility initiatives and advances its efforts to establish a culture of volunteerism and humanitarian work among employees. DEWA’s youths are demonstrating a steadily growing enthusiasm for opportunities offered by the company and the council to help them make meaningful contributions to society and deepen their involvement in volunteerism and community engagement.

Driven by the UAE’s Year of Community, under the ‘Hand in Hand’ theme, and aligned with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, DEWA is dedicated to realising the vision of our wise leadership to foster a cohesive and prosperous society. Its aim is to strengthen the culture of shared responsibility among all community members – especially the youth – so they can continue advancing social, economic and sustainable development.

In addition to its strategy to empower the youth and qualify them to take a leading role in achieving sustainable development, net zero and the energy transition, DEWA is dedicated to preparing a generation that upholds Emirati values and identity. This will promote their contribution to strengthen the bonds of authentic Emirati society, protect resources and environment, enhance overall quality of life and continue the nation’s journey of progress with confidence and efficiency. DEWA takes great pride in DEWA’s youth, who happily support its efforts to drive sustainable development in its three aspects – environmental, economic, and social.

Aysha Mohammad Alremeithi, President of DEWA’s Youth Council, said: “With the support of DEWA’s top management, we organise events to inspire and qualify the youth to create a sustainable positive social impact and consolidate the values of belonging, giving and community cohesion. We have strengthened the spirit of taking the initiative among DEWA’s youth, broadening their engagement in community work so they can serve as the foundation for sustainable and inclusive development. The eagerness of young people to engage in volunteer work and community initiatives highlights their profound sense of national awareness and responsibility, showcasing their ability to give back to both society and the nation.”

Issa Al Zarouni, a member of DEWA’s Youth Council, said the voluntary community initiatives organised by DEWA’s Youth Council contribute to creating positive change within society, and give young employees the opportunity to translate the values of giving and belonging into concrete actions.

“We sense the magnitude of the responsibility that falls on us as young people to build a more sustainable and cohesive future. DEWA’s empowerment of us enhances our skills, not only that, but it also gives us a real platform to contribute to achieving the vision of the wise leadership and the goals of the Year of Community,” said Al Zarouni.

Hamda Al Falasi, another Youth Council member, said the council’s involvement in local initiatives serves as a powerful testament to the value of empathy and the far-reaching effects of sustainable giving, in alignment with the Year of the Community.

“By taking purposeful and impactful actions, we strive to offer support and foster positivity. As members of DEWA’s Youth Council, we take pride in advancing DEWA’s mission and truly exemplifying its commitment to serving the community and making a meaningful difference,” said Al Falasi.

The Holy Month of Ramadan 2025

DEWA’s Youth Council participated in the Ramadan initiative titled ‘Your Iftar on us and your safety is our priority’, which was organised by the Dubai Youth Council in co-operation with the Emirates Red Crescent, with the participation of 10 government agencies. The initiative, which saw 4,620 iftar meals distributed to drivers in Dubai, aimed to enhance traffic safety concepts and establish a culture of giving and social responsibility during the holy month.

‘Our Youth, Our Pride’ initiative

DEWA’s Youth Council celebrated the winners of the third edition of its ‘Our Youth, Our Pride’ initiative to honour young volunteers who took part in community service and humanitarian work.

‘Eid Joy’ initiative

DEWA’s Youth Council participated in the ‘Eid Joy’ initiative launched by the Tawazun Council, in collaboration with the Emirates Red Crescent, with the aim of supporting needy families and bringing joy to their hearts during Eid Al Fitr. DEWA’s youth prepared boxes containing Eid supplies for distribution to families in need across the UAE.

Visiting children at Al Jalila Hospital

The Youth Council visited sick children at Al Jalila Hospital to spread joy and lift their spirits. Young volunteers gave gifts to the children and shared interactive experiences with them, nurturing deeper community bonds and demonstrating the power of empathy in action.

Creative and specialised workshops

DEWA’s Youth Council, in collaboration with Dubai Culture, organised a number of art workshops on the sidelines of the 13th Sikka Art and Design Festival, held in Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood. The workshops saw the participation of 38 young male and female DEWA employees seeking to develop their skills in art inspired by authentic Emirati heritage, including sculptures, Islamic geometric patterns and wooden inscriptions on doors, as well as abstract water paintings of coral reefs and the process of preparing sweets.

In addition, during the World Youth Skills Day 2025, DEWA’s Youth Council organised a creative workshop on pottery making, in co-operation with the Yadawei Ceramic Studio. This is part of the council’s efforts to equip young people with new skills, encourage them to engage in new creative and artistic experiences, and consolidate the spirit of teamwork and loyalty. The council also organised an interactive workshop in collaboration with Microsoft to expand the knowledge of DEWA’s young employees about generative AI.

Awareness initiatives

The council organised an interactive trip to Mushrif Park to promote the concept of sustainable living and encourage young people to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle. As part of ‘Summer Camp 2025’ activities organised by Ferjan Dubai and Al Ameen Service, the Youth Council held a series of awareness workshops in various Dubai schools to raise awareness about ways to enhance efficient electricity and water consumption.
