DEWA organises inclusive education workshops for DEWA Academy staff

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised three training workshops at DEWA Academy in Al Hudaiba to expand the abilities and experiences of the Academy’s employees in inclusive education. They introduced them to the key methods of dealing with Students of Determination to ensure comprehensive and competent educational opportunities for all students of various academic needs and capabilities.

The workshops highlighted the regulatory framework of inclusive education in the UAE, Dubai, and DEWA as well as concepts and key applications of inclusive education. This is in accordance with the Inclusive Education Guide by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and inclusive education procedures at DEWA Academy based on the updated case management system.

“We work to provide inclusive education and find educational opportunities that are convenient for students at DEWA Academy, and in all DEWA’s educational activities. This is in accordance with the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to find an inclusive society that empowers and ensure a decent life for People of Determination and their families; the ‘My Community... a City for Everyone’ initiative, launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a city that is accessible for People of Determination, the Dubai Strategy for People of Determination; and the fourth goal of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030: Quality Education and life-long learning opportunities for everyone. DEWA lists the goal of empowering People of Determination in all its policies and human resources procedures. It is committed to training its employees on DEWA’s Guide for Empowering and including People of Determination in the workplace and how to deal with them,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

DEWA organises continuous training for the Academy’s staff, students, and their families, on how to support People of Determination. These workshops are the second of their kind after the training organised by DEWA in collaboration with the American University in Dubai (AUD) to teach Academy staff about the practical applications of inclusive education in the classroom and how to include it in its teaching plan.

DEWA attaches great importance to providing the needed support for including and empowering People of Determination in society and at work. In 2019, DEWA completed retrofitting all buildings and facilities, including the DEWA Academy as per the Dubai Universal Code of Design. DEWA also updated its DEWA Academy website to facilitate browsing by all users according to Digital Dubai standards. The compliance of DEWA’s website is 100%, and its smart app is rated at 10/10 by Digital Dubai’s Accessibility Evaluation Report.
