Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) concluded the 17th cycle of the Future Engineer programme, organised annually for employees’ children to develop their skills in science, technology and engineering, while enhancing their innovative capabilities and preparing them to meet future requirements.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA honoured the 31 students who participated in the 17th cycle of the Future Engineer programme, in recognition of their commitment and excellence throughout the programme. HE praised their passion for learning and spirit of innovation, emphasising that investing in young generations is an investment in the future of the nation.

“At DEWA, we believe that investing in people starts at an early age, and that empowering young generations with future-focused knowledge and skills is a key pillar in building a competitive knowledge-based economy driven by innovation. The ‘Future Engineer’ programme aligns with the vision of the wise leadership to prepare a generation capable of creativity and harnessing technology to develop innovative solutions that support sustainable development,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.

This year’s programme featured a comprehensive range of practical activities and experiences, including artificial intelligence applications, smart device design, content creation using modern technologies, 3D printing, digital design, electrical circuits and the basics of electronics. These activities enabled participants to acquire practical knowledge and valuable skills within an interactive educational environment that encourages innovation and creative thinking. Participants also designed and programmed robots, took part in practical challenges, and explored the concepts of automation and the operation of smart aircraft and vehicles.

As part of its ‘Kulluna Rubban’ community initiative (Arabic for ‘We are All Captains’), students took part in a three-day field trip and hands-on programme designed to develop home maintenance and practical skills while fostering a culture of self-reliance. The programme combined engineering applications, technical training, interactive challenges and experiential learning to equip participants with essential life skills.

The programme also featured the Journey to the Future 2050 pillar, which enabled students to envision future professions, explore smart city concepts, and develop innovative solutions that support sustainability and enhance quality of life. The Future Innovation Adventures pillar focused on strengthening students’ creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills through interactive activities and hands-on challenges.

The Future Engineer programme is part of DEWA’s efforts to foster a culture of innovation and future readiness and develop Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills among the younger generation. The programme reflects DEWA’s commitment to fostering happiness among its employees and their families through outstanding initiatives that identify and develop their children’s skills, expand their knowledge and prepare them to keep pace with future requirements.
