Dubai Supreme Council of Energy holds sixth Circular Economy Committee meeting

The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has held its sixth Circular Economy Committee meeting to discuss current initiatives and review progress as it continues its efforts to promote a sustainable economy through a range of strategic initiatives.

The meeting emphasised the importance of collaboration to help Dubai achieve its sustainability and circular economy goals. The committee also announced the launch of a new Circular Economy Strategy Lab to raise awareness on circular economy principles within government organisations and across Dubai as a whole.

The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy launched the Circular Economy Committee as a platform to bring together public and private sector entities supporting the circular economy.

“In line with the vision and directives of our wise leadership, we launched the Circular Economy Committee to encourage investments in the field and present actionable proposals that support the expansion of current applications, as well as introduce global best practices that support the circular economy. This contributes to economic growth while protecting the environment and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

“In collaboration with our strategic partners, we aim to develop and launch innovative mechanisms and initiatives to enhance the adoption of the circular economy model across various sectors, ensuring they are implemented through approaches that connect all stakeholders. We also aim to accelerate the circular economy by improving the efficiency of natural resource consumption and encouraging sustainable practices through reusing resources, reducing waste and limiting emissions. This will contribute to addressing climate change challenges and building a better future for generations to come,” added Al Tayer.

The Circular Economy Committee meeting was chaired by HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of its Circular Economy Committee. The meeting was attended by committee members from public and private sector entities, including Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai Municipality, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Department of Economy and Tourism, Dubal Holding, Dubai Science Park, Emaar Properties and SEE Holding.

“The Circular Economy Committee serves as a vital platform for public and private entities to exchange knowledge, align efforts and create sustainable solutions that benefit all. Our focus is to implement initiatives that not only drive sustainability but also contribute to Dubai’s economic growth and global competitiveness,” said Al Muhairbi, emphasising the importance of cross-sectoral partnerships.

Additionally, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy revealed plans to develop a comprehensive measurement and reporting tool to evaluate the circular economy performance of government entities and across Dubai as a whole. The tool will track progress, identify areas for improvement and keep the city's circular economy transition on track.

The Circular Economy Committee remains dedicated to driving forward Dubai’s vision for sustainability by leveraging partnerships, innovation and international best practices to achieve a more sustainable and resource-efficient future.
