As part of its participation as Efficiency Partner of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2025, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) will highlight its most prominent innovative projects and initiatives in sustainability and clean and renewable energy. Visitors of the event, which is hosted by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), will learn about DEWA’s most notable projects and its progress in various areas of research and development, innovation and smart technologies, as well as its pioneering efforts to lay the foundations for a green future and support sustainable development. DEWA’s stand is in Hall 5 (Energy Hall) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 14 to 16 January 2025.
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park
DEWA’s stand will feature a model of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park globally, using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. The current production capacity of the solar park is 2,860MW, using state-of-the-art photovoltaic solar panels and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies, with 1,800MW under construction. By 2030, approximately 27% of Dubai’s energy production capacity will be sourced from clean and renewable energy.
Sustainability and Innovation Centre
DEWA’s Sustainability and Innovation Centre, located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, offers visitors an immersive experience, showcasing the latest innovation in sustainability and clean energy technology. Through metaverse technology, the centre provides a virtual tour of the solar park.
R&D Centre
DEWA’s Research and Development (R&D) Centre reinforces Dubai’s position as a global hub for research in solar power, smart grids, energy efficiency and capacity building. The centre published 263 Scopus-indexed scientific and research papers in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and international scientific conferences. Additionally, the DEWA R&D Centre has filed 42 patent applications to protect its intellectual property.
Space-D
DEWA’s space programme, Space-D, supports the development, maintenance and planning of Dubai’s electricity and water networks, enhancing the efficiency of DEWA’s generation, transmission and distribution divisions. As part of this initiative, DEWA launched two nanosatellites – DEWA-SAT1 in January 2022 and DEWA-SAT2 in April 2023 – making DEWA the first utility globally to use nanosatellites to enhance operational performance.
EV Green Charger
Launched in 2014, the EV Green Charger initiative supports Dubai’s vision to become the smartest and happiest city worldwide while promoting green mobility. The number of green charging stations across Dubai now exceeds 400 with a capacity of 740 charging points as most stations can charge two vehicles at the same time.
Smart Grid
The stand will also highlight the characteristics and features of the smart grid developed by DEWA, which helps enhance energy transmission and distribution efficiency, reduce loss and improve electric load management. The seamless, swift and effective operation of the smart grid has enabled DEWA to achieve competitive results that surpass those of prominent global utilities in terms of efficiency and reliability. DEWA recently received the ‘Smart Grid Project of the Year – UAE’ award for its Distribution Automation Smart Grid projects at the Asian Power Awards 2024.
