HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), chaired the 86th meeting of the Council, which was held at the Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah Hotel in the presence of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Council.
The meeting was also attended by HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Council, and board members HE Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality; HE Abdulla bin Kalban, Managing Director of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA); HE Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC); Juan-Pablo Freile, General Manager of Dubai Petroleum; and Muna Alosaimi, Chief Executive Officer of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
During the meeting, the Council reviewed progress in carbon capture technologies and their potential application in the generation of clean fuel, such as green hydrogen and green ammonia, to support industrial operations in Dubai. Members also examined the technical and economic feasibility of these technologies in alignment with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy 2030.
The Council also discussed the regulatory framework for the performance of district cooling service providers in Dubai to enhance network efficiency and support the Emirate's sustainable urban expansion. To further improve resource efficiency, the Council approved a system and guidelines for retrofitting government buildings. These include enhancing operational efficiency, reducing water and electricity consumption, and mandating that all government departments implement Al Sa’fat – Dubai Green Building System in the design and construction of government buildings from 2026 onwards.
“In line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote sustainable development and support the green economy, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy is committed to consolidating Dubai’s position as a global role model for high-quality infrastructure that ensures the highest standards of living and quality of life. In this context, the Council continues to drive efforts to support and implement strategies and policies adopted over the past 12 years, with a focus on ensuring the efficiency of project and programme implementation mechanisms while continuing to shape Dubai's strategic direction to achieve its future objectives,” said Al Tayer.
Al Muhairbi said: “The Council and its members, representing leading government entities and organisations in Dubai, have implemented an integrated model of programmes and projects to keep pace with the rapid developments in energy, buildings and infrastructure. This is outlined in the road map supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.”
