Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating as a strategic partner in Dubai AI Week 2025 as part of its commitment to support Dubai's vision to become a global hub for artificial intelligence (AI). The week-long event is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. AI Week is organised by the Dubai Future Foundation and the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence, from 21 to 25 April 2025.

AI Retreat

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and several DEWA officials participated in the second cycle of the AI Retreat held at the Museum of the Future. The retreat gathers global leaders, tech giants, decision-makers and AI experts from both government and the private sector to accelerate the adoption of AI applications across key and priority sectors. This year's panel discussions focused on four main themes: digital infrastructure for AI; governance, policy and data frameworks; AI-driven economic growth; and education, talent and cultural identity. These discussions aim to identify the key policies and legislation that need updating, as well as explore the opportunities offered by AI applications, enhance their positive and developmental impact in vital sectors, support local talent and build the necessary digital infrastructure.

AI-native utility

DEWA is showcasing its key AI initiatives and projects at Dubai AI Week, including the strategic road map it launched earlier this year to become the world’s first AI-native utility, leveraging AI across all core operations.

“In line with the proactive vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to solidify Dubai's position as one of the world's foremost future cities, we are integrating AI technologies into DEWA’s electricity and water production, transmission and distribution networks. This enhances productivity and efficiency, as well as supports the strategic road map to become the world’s first AI-native utility,” said Al Tayer.

He underlined the robust infrastructure of the electricity and water network. DEWA ranks first globally in 12 key performance indicators in its core business. The Dubai AI Week activities are an important opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences, highlight key visions within this vital sector and mobilise efforts to advance the AI scene in the UAE and Dubai, in line with the UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031.

Other AI initiatives

DEWA is also highlighting its use of computer-using agents and AI agents. These include Rammas, DEWA’s virtual employee supported by AI and ChatGPT, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to proactively enhance its digital services by adopting the latest emerging technologies. AI agents help to improve operational efficiency and accelerate digital processes, saving customers time and effort.

At Area 2071, which is hosting the Dubai Assembly for AI event, DEWA is showcasing its AI strategy and change management plan, along with its AI-based initiatives, solutions and tools. It is also taking part in several interactive sessions exploring co-operation between Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA – the digital arm of DEWA – and strategic partners to promote smart, sustainable solutions that meet society's needs and support sustainable development.

Furthermore, DEWA Academy is participating in the AI Week in Schools event, held on the sidelines of Dubai AI Week in collaboration with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority. The event aims to introduce pupils and teachers to AI concepts, tools and applications, enabling them to acquire basic AI skills, foster innovation and prepare Dubai's youths for an AI-powered future.
