“Based on the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) believes that environmental sustainability is synonymous with sustainable development, and that protecting the Earth is a shared responsibility. We support the proactive path established by the UAE to not only achieve net zero by 2050 but also contribute to galvanising global efforts in support of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, as well as address the global repercussions of climate change. In line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to ensure clean energy sources account for 100% of the Emirate’s energy production capacity by 2050, DEWA is committed to accelerating the green economy and the energy transition. We adopt innovation, digital transformation and the latest disruptive technologies to consolidate the sustainability of electricity and water supply. We are also implementing various globally leading projects, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single site solar park in the world, as well as the Green Hydrogen project and the Hatta Hydroelectric Power Plant. By 2030, we aim to produce 100% of desalinated water through a clean energy mix that leverages renewable energy and waste heat. Furthermore, we also launch campaigns, programmes and initiatives that aim to advance green mobility, protect biodiversity and wildlife, and raise community awareness on the importance of adopting a responsible and sustainable lifestyle,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA’s comprehensive environmental programmes also help to minimise waste and protect public health, and fully comply with all local, federal and international standards and specifications. DEWA has emerged as a model for sustainability, the green economy and the carbon footprint reduction campaign, with its globally recognised, award-winning green initiatives underscoring the organisation’s continued commitment to environmental conservation and outlining a clear path towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.” added Al Tayer.
