Under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is organising the 27th edition of Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) from 30 September to 2 October 2025 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

WETEX brings together leading local and international companies to showcase the latest technologies in water production, purification and smart network management. The exhibition has continued to serve as a global platform for advancing sustainable water solutions and addressing the growing challenges of water scarcity. WETEX is one of the world’s leading – and the region’s largest – specialised exhibitions, encompassing a broad range of sectors, including energy, water, clean and renewable technologies, green development, sustainability, decarbonisation, green mobility, green hydrogen, cyber security, digitisation, sustainable cities, green buildings, artificial intelligence and smart grids.

“The exhibition brings together innovators, companies, investors and decision-makers from around the world to exchange experiences, knowledge and the latest developments, and to present long-term solutions that bridge the growing gap between water demand and available resources. The exhibition encourages investment in innovative water management solutions and the use of technology and innovation to build the future of water security,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA and Founder and Chairman of WETEX.

“Given that water is a basic human need, the exhibition works to boost everyone's access to reliable and safe water resources and thus sustainable development across health, education, economy, food security and other vital sectors. WETEX provides a global platform to support partnerships and co-operation aimed at keeping pace with rising demand for water driven by rapid population growth, urban expansion and the growing agriculture, industrial and energy sectors,” added Al Tayer.

A United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) report revealed that four billion people – or about two thirds of the world’s population – experience severe water scarcity for at least one month each year. By 2030, 700 million people could be displaced due to water shortages. Thirteen Arab countries are among the most affected globally, with water availability expected to fall below 700 cubic meters per person annually. Moreover, according to the UN, approximately 40% of the world’s population could face the risk of serious water scarcity by 2040, thereby underscoring the urgency of innovative water solutions.

Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity, said: “Our longstanding partnership with WETEX reflects Etihad Water and Electricity’s deep-rooted commitment to advancing the UAE’s sustainability and innovation agenda. As a strategic sponsor, we are proud to support this vital platform that brings together global expertise and showcases the future of energy and water. With a legacy of service across the Northern Emirates, we remain focused on delivering next-generation utility solutions that enable economic growth, environmental stewardship and national progress.”

Ahmed Ali Alshamsi, Chief Executive Officer of EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company), said: “EWEC is pleased to participate in WETEX 2025 as a Strategic Sponsor, highlighting our role in shaping the future of the UAE’s water and energy sector. As the sole procurer, supplier, despatcher and long-term planner for the emirate of Abu Dhabi’s water and electricity production, EWEC is leading the strategic decarbonisation of the sector by commissioning the development of utility-scale renewable energy and low-carbon-intensive seawater desalination projects that will accelerate progress towards the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. Through these efforts, we are supporting Abu Dhabi’s target of generating 60 per cent of its electricity from carbon-free sources by 2035, while also safeguarding energy security and system reliability.”
