The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE, established a pioneering approach to climate action. This approach continues under the forward-looking vision of the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The country is leading global efforts to empower a green economy and accelerate sustainable transformation through proactive initiatives based on innovation, knowledge and a clear vision of the future.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the World Green Economy Summit is one of the UAE’s most prominent platforms for achieving a balance between economic growth and environmental protection. Since its launch, the summit, organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and the World Green Economy Organization, has established its role as a global platform for developing green policies, expanding investments and supporting sustainable development efforts. Every year, the summit brings together government leaders, decision-makers and thinkers and innovators from around the world. It has contributed to launching various strategic initiatives, most notably the ‘Global Alliance on Green Economy’ in 2022, which now brings together dozens of countries to unify efforts, strengthen the capabilities of developing nations and empower them to face climate challenges.
The 11th edition of the summit will be held on 1-2 October 2025 under the theme ‘Innovating for Impact: Accelerating the Future of the Green Economy’, emphasising its role in transforming ideas into practical, implementable solutions. Its themes focus on technology and innovation, clean and renewable energy technologies, policy and regulation, finance, climate equity, climate adaptation and resilience, and youth in climate action. These issues are key pillars for advancing the green transformation process locally and globally.
Over 11 years, the summit has succeeded in strengthening public-private partnerships and consolidating key concepts such as climate equity, equitable energy transition and green finance. It has also provided an opportunity to showcase the UAE experience as an inspiring model for accelerating sustainable transformation. Considering the country's historic success in hosting COP28 and the historic UAE Consensus, the summit serves as a platform to translate these commitments into viable policies and initiatives, accelerating global efforts towards a more sustainable and prosperous future. The summit also contributes to building bridges of co-operation and accelerating the implementation of the global climate agenda through pioneering initiatives that drive the green transition locally, regionally and globally. Its integrated development model links good governance and the green economy, transforming environmental challenges into tangible development and economic opportunities.
The World Green Economy Summit is more than just an event; it is a solid platform, a vital laboratory for ideas, policies and practical solutions, and, more importantly, a renewed Emirati message to the world that sustainability is not an option but a civilisational commitment and an advanced vision towards a more sustainable and prosperous future for us and for generations to come.
