On the occasion of World Energy Day 2026, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), emphasised that the transition to clean and renewable energy sources is no longer an option but a national and humanitarian responsibility driven by climate change challenges and sustainable development requirements.

“Guided by the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE has firmly reinforced its standing as a global leader in the transition to clean and renewable energy, driven by strategic initiatives and projects that support the nation’s journey towards achieving net zero by 2050. Dubai, in particular, has emerged as an exemplary global model, adopting clean and renewable energy solutions and delivering high-quality projects that have now serve as benchmarks for sustainability and innovation worldwide. The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to provide 100% of energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050, reflect Dubai’s unwavering commitment to a sustainable, green economy that balances economic growth with environmental stewardship. This vision is being realised by steadily increasing the share of clean energy in the energy mix, expanding solar energy projects and integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and energy storage solutions to enhance production efficiency and provide clean energy around the clock,” said Al Tayer.

“The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world using the independent power producer model, embodies Dubai’s ambition and its ability to transform strategic visions into tangible achievements that help to lower carbon emissions, enhance energy security and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The solar park’s total production capacity has reached 3,860 megawatts (MW) and will exceed 8,000 MW by 2030, compared to the original plan of 5,000 MW, reducing over 8.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually,” added Al Tayer.

“On World Clean Energy Day, we reaffirm our commitment to continued investment in innovation and research and development, as well as to strengthening effective partnerships with the public and private sectors and international organisations. These collective efforts are essential to enabling a comprehensive transition to clean energy and to building a more resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem that reinforces the UAE’s leading role in advancing global climate action,” concluded Al Tayer.
