Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has reinforced its commitment to empowering People of Determination in the workplace and wider community through its Damj (Arabic for inclusion) initiative, with employee happiness among People of Determination reaching 98.02% in 2025, according to the Dubai Government Excellence Programme. Damj provides targeted support to employees, including those caring for children who are People of Determination, by addressing their educational needs, offering specialised resources and ensuring access to equipment that enables full participation and productivity.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said the initiative reflects DEWA’s efforts to promote an inclusive and supportive work environment for People of Determination.

“Guided by the vision of the wise leadership, we are committed to enhancing the inclusion and empowerment of People of Determination by providing a supportive and positive environment that takes their needs into account and helps them overcome challenges. This ensures their effective participation in development and prosperity on an equal basis with others. We continue to focus on improving quality of life, supporting independent living and providing equal opportunities for excellence and innovation, thus helping People of Determination to unleash their full potential,” Al Tayer said.

Since its launch, the initiative has benefited more than 40 employees and their children, complementing DEWA’s broader framework of programmes that support People of Determination across the organisation. These include the Sadiqi initiative, which assigns two trained colleagues to support each employee who is a Person of Determination in the workplace and during emergencies; the Estisharati programme, which provides psychological support; the Absher Office, which streamlines procedures through a dedicated team of HR employees; and the People of Determination Legal Adviser initiative, which provides legal consultancy. DEWA also runs the Omniyati initiative, which fulfils the wishes of employees who are People of Determination.
