Al Shera’a, the new headquarters of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has achieved a new global milestone by earning Platinum certification in the New Construction category of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, the highest level awarded by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The building earned 102 out of 110 points, further cementing its position as one of the world’s leading sustainable government projects.

Al Shera’a’s platinum certification in the New Construction category of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, reflects our commitment to supporting the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 through the development of pioneering infrastructure based on energy efficiency, sustainability, smart technologies and a high-quality work environment,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“Al Shera’a is the tallest, largest and smartest net-positive government building in the world, generating more clean energy than it consumes annually. This reinforces DEWA’s leadership in innovation and sustainability through an integrated model that combines sustainable design, advanced digital technologies, operational efficiency and a modern work environment that supports productivity and innovation,” added Al Tayer.
Clean energy and pioneering technologies
The total photovoltaic (PV) generation capacity of Al Shera’a is approximately five megawatts. This includes building-integrated photovoltaics incorporated into the façade, as well as PV panels installed on the roof. The building is also equipped with specialised robotic systems for cleaning solar panels, helping to maintain operational efficiency and maximise energy generation.
Al Shera’a features more than 110,000 data points that are monitored and managed in real time through an advanced digital platform powered by artificial intelligence and Internet of Things technologies. This enhances energy and water efficiency while optimising the performance of the building’s systems. In addition, the building includes 46 electric vehicle charging points and incorporates integrated water management and recycling solutions, alongside smart systems that control lighting, indoor air quality and cooling. These features enhance operational efficiency while providing a healthy and sustainable work environment.
