DEWA’s Youth Council and Community Development Authority enhance senior citizens’ happiness and quality of life

The Youth Council of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in collaboration with the Community Development Authority in Dubai, organised a community event titled ‘A Day with Senior Citizens’. The initiative aimed to foster intergenerational communication, reinforce the values of respect and appreciation for senior citizens, highlight their key role in the development journey and support the sustainability of cultural heritage by transferring it to younger generations.

Thirty young DEWA employees participated in discussions, interactive and sports activities, as well as cultural and heritage competitions, bringing joy to senior citizens at the Al Barsha Community Centre and contributing to their quality of life. The activities also provided senior citizens with opportunities to share their life experiences, helping them feel valued and recognised for their influential role in society.

“In alignment with the Year of the Family in the UAE and reflecting DEWA’s efforts to reinforce family cohesion, bonding and social responsibility, we are keen to provide senior citizens with opportunities to continue giving and sharing their life experiences, which have contributed to the development and prosperity of our society. Senior citizens serve as an inspiration to youth and younger generations, embodying authentic Emirati values rooted in belonging, loyalty and hard work. The activities organised by the Youth Council in line with the Year of Family 2026 and in collaboration with DEWA’s strategic partners, promote constructive communication between young people and senior citizens. This supports the sustainability of national achievements and gains, while preserving our noble principles and values, which are fundamental pillars that reinforce the social fabric, harmony, solidarity and cooperation,” said Aysha Mohammad Alremeithi, DEWA’s Youth Council President.

The activities included a discussion session on the importance of the family as the cornerstone of community cohesion, as well as an interactive workshop designed to foster creativity and introduce participants to traditional crafts and innovative ways of using traditional Arab gold ornaments to make phone accessories. DEWA’s young employees and senior citizens also took part in a football match, followed by an awareness session on the importance of sports and physical activity. These activities strengthened the spirit of sharing and positive communication across generations.
