The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award integrates cutting-edge technologies, including AI, into its criteria for creativity and innovation, aiming to advance solutions that benefit humanity
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), has announced the enhancement of the ‘creativity and innovation’ criteria for the fifth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. The move will see artificial intelligence integrated into the evaluation process. While chairing the board’s fourth meeting of 2025, Al Tayer emphasised the award’s support for initiatives that harness the latest technologies, including AI, to better serve humanity. He noted that this approach aligns with the UAE’s vision to empower creative talent, accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge solutions and transform innovative ideas into practical projects that enhance quality of life globally.

DEWA expands Dubai’s transmission network with 22 new 132kV substations launched in 2025
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has continued to accelerate its transmission expansion programme in 2025, commissioning eight new substations and extending 250km of underground cables and overhead transmission lines at a cost of more than AED 1.35 billion. The projects, carried out in Al Warsan 4, Al Yalayis 5, Hatta, Saih Shuaib 3, Al Habiyah 5 and Jebel Ali First, are part of DEWA’s ongoing drive to develop advanced electricity infrastructure that supports Dubai’s rapid growth.

DEWA supports biodiversity and restoration of mangrove forests in cooperation with DECCA
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in cooperation with the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA), planted 600 new mangrove trees at the Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary, with the participation of 239 volunteers who contributed a combined 478 hours of service. From February 2023 to December 2025, DEWA planted 13,950 mangrove trees at the sanctuary, with the participation of about 1,900 DEWA employees, their families, staff from DEWA’s subsidiaries and DEWA Academy students.
